Prof Md Ismail Hossain, Dean of Academic Affairs at Universal College Bangladesh, and Professor of Marketing in the Faculty of Business, Dhaka University is publishing series of articles on e-waste in The Business Standard. In the first article, Prof Ismail and his colleague Prof Nasrin Akter, discuss the e-waste value chain, how it is structured, who does the processing, and how the waste is processed.
This is the first of four articles that will appear in subsequent weeks about the e-waste value chain in Bangladesh outlining the potential benefits of effective e-waste management and the perils of not managing waste correctly. Prof Ismail said, “Processing e-waste properly could make a valuable contribution to our national economy. Unfortunately, the current system is so unstructured that it is not really a system, and this means that Bangladesh is both losing money and putting the local environment at risk. Prof Nasrin and I will be showing how Bangladesh can benefit from e-waste processing and protect our natural resources.”.
