Country’s pioneering international education provider, Universal College Bangladesh (UCB), has entered into a new partnership with leading private bank Eastern Bank PLC. (EBL), offering exciting career prospects to UCB students. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between the two organisations with a vision to bridge the gap between industry and academia for meritorious students. In recent months, UCB has undertaken a series of partnership initiatives with reputed organisations, allowing students to gain valuable practical experience after completing their degrees. Building on this success, the MoU was signed on 8 September 2024 at the UCB Campus. Manas Singh, CEO of STS Group, and M. Khorshed Anowar, DMD and Head of Retail & SME Banking at Eastern Bank PLC., signed the MoU on behalf of their respective organisations. The signing ceremony was also attended by other senior officials from both organisations, including Syed Zulkar Nayen, Head of Business, Retail & SME Banking; Trisha Taklim, Head of Payroll Banking from Eastern Bank PLC.; Kingshuk Gupta, Chief Operating Officer; S M Rahmatul Mujeeb, FCA – Chief Financial Officer of STS Capital Ltd.; Mustafa Waki Chowdhury FCA, Head of Finance; and S. M. Risalat Rahman, Assistant Manager, from UCB. This initiative is expected to enhance UCB students’ career opportunities through exclusive placement and internship programmes at EBL. Students will also benefit from training programmes, knowledge-sharing sessions, guest lectures, career guidance, and mentoring throughout their time at the bank. The partnership underscores the importance of collaboration between academia and industry and will provide students with access to industry-leading resources and networking opportunities. UCB students will gain hands-on experience, tackle real-life challenges, and receive mentorship to prepare them for the competitive job market. London School of Economics’ Open Day held at UCB

Universal College Bangladesh (UCB) has partnered with the reputed London School of Economic (LSE) to offer local students the opportunity to study world-class curriculums in accounting, business, economics, management, finance, and social science. UCB hosted an Open Day at their campus in Gulshan to provide students with an in-depth overview of the prestigious University of London (UoL) degrees available at UCB. The event featured Dr. James Abdey, Associate Professor in Statistics and Associate International Director at LSE. As the Chief Guest, Dr. Abdey offered valuable insights into what makes the LSE curriculum so special, and how a University of London (UoL) degree enhances career prospects for students. Also present at the event were Manas Singh, CEO of STS; Prof. Hew Gill, President and Provost of UCB; Prof. Muhammad Ismail Hossain, Dean of Academic Affairs; and Kingshuk Gupta, Chief Operating Officer of UCB. Prof Hew Gill opened the event with a speech explaining how international education gives Bangladeshi students the skills they need to succeed in their careers. Dr. James Abdey then made a presentation about how LSE designs its degree curriculums for students studying their degrees at UCB. LSE is ranked number 6 in the QS World Ranking of Universities, so is among the very best universities in the world. Many LSE degrees are accredited by professional bodies such as ICA, CIMA, and ACCA so students may receive exemptions from professional exams when studying to become accounting, finance and data analytics professionals. UCB offers four full degrees designed and assessed by the LSE. Students can complete all three years of their graduation at UCB and when they finish they can graduate in Dhaka or they can choose to receive their degree at the Graduation Convocation ceremony in London. The next UCB intake for the LSE designed degrees is on 14th October 2024. বাংলাদেশি শিক্ষার্থীদের জন্য একাউন্টিং, বিজনেস, ইকোনমিক্স, ম্যানেজমেন্ট, ফাইন্যান্স ও সোশ্যাল সায়েন্সে আন্তর্জাতিক মানের উচ্চশিক্ষা ও সেরা ডিগ্রি অর্জনের সুবিধার্থে স্বনামধন্য লন্ডন স্কুল অফ ইকোনমিক্সের সাথে অংশীদারিত্ব সম্পন্ন করেছে ইউনিভার্সাল কলেজ বাংলাদেশ (ইউসিবি)। দেশের অন্যতম শীর্ষ আন্তর্জাতিক শিক্ষাদানকারী প্রতিষ্ঠানটি সম্প্রতি গুলশানে তাদের ক্যাম্পাসে একটি “ওপেন ডে” অনুষ্ঠানের আয়োজন করে, যেখানে শিক্ষার্থীরা ইউসিবি’র অধীনে ইউনিভার্সিটি অফ লন্ডন (ইউওএল)’এর বিভিন্ন ডিগ্রি অধ্যয়ন প্রসঙ্গে বিস্তারিত তথ্য জানতে পারেন। আয়োজনে লন্ডন স্কুল অফ ইকোনমিক্সের স্ট্যাটিসটিক্সের অ্যাসোসিয়েট প্রফেসর এবং অ্যাসোসিয়েট ইন্টারন্যাশনাল ডিরেক্টর ড. জেমস অ্যাবডি উপস্থিত ছিলেন। ওপেন ডে প্রোগ্রামে এলএসই কারিকুলামের বিশেষত্ব নিয়ে তথ্যবহুল আলোচনা করেন প্রধান অতিথি ড. অ্যাবডি। ইউনিভার্সিটি অফ লন্ডনের ডিগ্রি কীভাবে শিক্ষার্থীদের ক্যারিয়ারকে সমৃদ্ধ করে তুলতে পারে, এ বিষয়ে তিনি বিস্তারিত জানান। অনুষ্ঠানে আরো উপস্থিত ছিলেন এসটিএস গ্রুপ সিইও মানাস সিং; ইউসিবি’র প্রেসিডেন্ট ও প্রভোস্ট প্রফেসর হিউ গিল; ডিন অফ অ্যাকাডেমিক অ্যাফেয়ার্স প্রফেসর মুহাম্মদ ইসমাইল হোসেন; এবং চিফ অপারেটিং অফিসার কিংশুক গুপ্ত। অনুষ্ঠানের শুরুতে বাংলাদেশি শিক্ষার্থীদের ক্যারিয়ারে সাফল্য অর্জনে আন্তর্জাতিক শিক্ষার গুরুত্ব ও ইতিবাচক প্রভাব প্রসঙ্গে বক্তব্য রাখেন প্রফেসর হিউ গিল। এরপর ইউসিবি’তে শিক্ষার্থীদের সেরা সাফল্যের জন্য এলএসই কীভাবে নিজস্ব কারিকুলাম প্রস্তুত করে থাকে, এ বিষয়ে একটি প্রেজেন্টেশন উপস্থাপন করেন ড. জেমস অ্যাবডি। বিশ্বের অন্যতম শীর্ষ বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় এলএসই, কিউএস ওয়ার্ল্ড র‍্যাংকিং অনুসারে বিশ্বে ৬ষ্ঠ সেরার অবস্থান অর্জন করেছে। আইসিএ, সিআইএমএ, ও এসিসিএ’র মত বিভিন্ন পেশাদারি সংস্থা এলএসই’র বিভিন্ন ডিগ্রির স্বীকৃতি প্রদান করে থাকে। তাই অ্যাকাউন্টিং, ফাইন্যান্স, ও ডেটা অ্যানালিটিক্সের মত নানা বিষয়ে পেশাদারিত্ব অর্জনে অনেক ক্ষেত্রে ইউসিবি শিক্ষার্থীদের আলাদা করে প্রফেশনাল পরীক্ষা দিতে হয় না। এলএসই’র প্রণয়ন ও তত্ত্বাবধানে চারটি পূর্ণাঙ্গ ডিগ্রি লাভের সুযোগ দিচ্ছে ইউসিবি। শিক্ষার্থীরা তিন বছর পড়াশোনা সম্পন্ন করে পরবর্তীতে নিজেদের সুবিধা অনুসারে ঢাকায় অথবা লন্ডনে সমাবর্তন গ্রহণ করতে পারেন। ইউসিবি’তে এলএসই প্রণীত ডিগ্রি’র পরবর্তী ইনটেক হবে আগামী ১৪ অক্টোবর, ২০২৪। “শিক্ষার্থীদের আধুনিক বিশ্বের বাজার চাহিদার সাথে তাল মিলিয়ে চলার জন্য প্রয়োজনীয় দক্ষতা ও জ্ঞান দানে মূল প্রাধান্য দিয়ে এলএসই তাদের বিভিন্ন ডিগ্রির কারিকুলাম তৈরি করে। এটি বিশ্বের সেরা ১০টি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের একটি, সুতরাং, ইউসিবি’তে এলএসই’র শিক্ষার্থীরা একাউন্টিং, বিজনেস, ইকোনমিক্স, ম্যানেজমেন্ট, ফাইন্যান্স ও সোশ্যাল সায়েন্সের প্রতিটি বিষয়ে সম্ভাব্য সেরা দিকনির্দেশনায় পড়াশোনা করেন। উপস্থিত মেধাবী শিক্ষার্থীদের সাথে আজ ইউসিবি’তে এলএসই প্রোগ্রামগুলোর বিষয়ে আলোচনা করতে পেরে এবং তাদের ক্যারিয়ারে অনন্য সম্ভাবনার বিষয়ে জানাতে পেরে আমি আনন্দিত”, বলেন ড. জেমস অ্যাবডি। ইউসিবি প্রেসিডেন্ট ও প্রভোস্ট প্রফেসর হিউ গিল বলেন, “ইউসিবি’তে আমরা এলএসই স্বীকৃত শিক্ষকদের দ্বারা এলএসই প্রণীত ডিগ্রি’র শিক্ষাদান করে থাকি, যার মাধ্যমে শিক্ষার্থীরা ক্যারিয়ারে সেরা সাফল্য অর্জনের পথে এগিয়ে থাকেন”। ওপেন ডে’তে উপস্থিত সকলে ইউসিবি ও এলএসই’র অংশীদারিত্বের ধারাবাহিকতায় দেশে থেকেই আন্তর্জাতিক মানের উচ্চ শিক্ষা অর্জন ও উজ্জ্বল ক্যারিয়ার গঠনে বিভিন্ন পরামর্শ লাভ করেন। দেশের শীর্ষ আন্তর্জাতিক শিক্ষাদানকারী প্রতিষ্ঠান হিসেবে ভবিষ্যতেও এধরণের আয়োজনের মধ্য দিয়ে বাংলাদেশি শিক্ষার্থীদের সফল একাডেমিক ক্যারিয়ার গঠনে সহযোগিতা অব্যাহত রাখতে চায় ইউসিবি।   Published in: Sharebazarnews

Aura Rahman

Lecturer

Aura Rahman is a lecturer at Universal College Bangladesh. She is also acting as a coordinator for the Monash University Foundation Year program. Aura attained her bachelor’s (BSc in Biomedical Sciences) from University College London, United Kingdom. She then completed her master’s (Msc in Biotechnology) from North South University. Her research interest lies in the field of genomic epidemiology of infectious diseases. Her contribution in several local and international research projects have led to publications in several highly ranked peer-reviewed journals including BMC Genomics, Nature Scientific Reports, Science and FEMS Microbiology Letters.

Ambreen Zaman

Ambreen Zaman is a senior lecturer with eight years of experience in various local universities in Bangladesh. She is currently pursuing a PhD degree at the University of Bremen, Germany. She obtained a master’s degree in information technology from the Institute of Information Technology at the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. Her research papers have been published in national and international journals and conferences. The area of research she is most interested in is human-computer interaction.

Nahida Parvin

Nahida Parvin is a lecturer at Universal College Bangladesh. Before joining UCB, she worked as a lecturer of accounting and marketing at Ahsanullah University of Science & Technology (AUST). Nahida has received her MBA & BBA degrees, majoring in Accounting & Information Systems, from the University of Dhaka. She has been the recipient of “Dean’s Honor Award 2018”, awarded by the University of Dhaka. Currently, Nahida is on study leave. She is pursuing her second master’s degree in “Quantitative Finance & Data Science” at Oklahoma State University, USA. Her research interest lies in the field of ESG accounting, ESG finance, circular economy, and data analytics in the field of accounting and finance. Apart from being a lecturer, Nahida also served as a program coordinator for Monash University Foundation Year program at UCB from August 2021 to May 2023.

Habiba Kibria

Ms Habiba Kibria is a working as a Senior Lecturer at Universal College Bangladesh. She completed her Masters in Marketing from Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia and holds a double degree in Bachelor of Marketing and Human Resource Management from North South University, Dhaka, Bangladesh. She has been in academia throughout her career- from being a Lecturer to a Student Councilor to a Country Manager for a foreign university. Her area of interest lies in customer service management, consumer behavior and digital marketing. She holds the Duke of Edinburgh award at Broze level and has been awarded as one of the best project coordinators during her high school community service days. Ms Farin is the founder of the education platform, One Circle. She is a certified mental health first aider and a life coach. She has extensive experience in the life-skills education sector, working in various schools and non-profit organizations in London and Dhaka. She is the author of the Tara and Joy children’s book series. The first book of this series called “Tara and Joy: Body Safety” is available now both in Bengali and English version.

Dr. Sadia Afreen

She earned the Postgraduate Student Teachers Certificate during her postgraduate study at the University of Nottingham. She worked in the hall committee, conference committee at the University of Nottingham; teaching and learning subcommittee, and program coordinator in the Monash College MCD program at UCB. She worked in industry and had several engineering and research training at home and abroad.

Prof. Muhammad Ismail Hossain

Muhammad Ismail Hossain is a Professor and Dean of Academic Affairs, Monash & LSE Program at Universal College Bangladesh. He is on leave from his earlier appointment as Professor of Marketing at the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. Prof. Hossain received his Ph.D. in consumer behavior from Monash University, Australia. He is an MBA from the University of Dhaka and also has a Master’s degree in International Business from the University of Melbourne, Australia. His research interests lie in the fields of tourism, consumer behavior, and supply chain management. He is one of the co-authors of the book Social Media Storms: Empowering Leadership beyond Crisis Management published by Routledge. He has more than 50 publications including books, research monographs, journal articles, newspaper articles, and keynote papers. His work has been published in many international high-impact journals such as the Journal of Supply Chain Management, Journal of Travel Research, Tourism Recreation Research, Current Issues in Tourism, International Journal of Tourism Research, and Journal of City, Culture, and Society among others. He is an editorial board member of the Journal of Travel Research, the leading tourism journal in the world. He has received a notable amount of external research funding locally as well as internationally as part of various international and local research groups. The value of such local and international funding is BDT 1.06 crores and USD 827,873 respectively. As a consultant, he worked for government projects, not-for-profits, and for-profit local and international organizations.
