MUFY programme orientation held at UCB

The orientation session for the Monash University Foundation Year (MUFY) programme’s ninth intake was held by Universal College Bangladesh (UCB) on Sunday. This has been the second batch of 2024 after the successful orientation of the first intake in January, 2024, according to a press release. The orientation gave students and their parents a thorough introduction to the world-famous MUFY programme and introduced them to international standards of teaching and learning applied by Monash and UCB. Alongside the student orientation, there was also a dedicated parent orientation to explain the various MUFY programme options and explain how students who complete MUFY can study at Monash and a range of world-class universities. On behalf of UCB, Academic Affairs Dean Prof Muhammad Ismail Hossain and President & Provost Prof Hew Gill, warmly welcomed the parents and students. Representatives from Monash attending the orientation included Azra Karim, from Monash University, University Marketing, Admissions and Communications; and Daniel Lum, from International Recruitment & Development, Marketing and Future Students, Monash University, Malaysia.  The Monash team shared essential information about studying MUFY and the many Monash programmes available in Australia and Malaysia. Students also received a detailed overview session on what to expect from the MUFY programme from Ambreen Zaman, senior lecturer and MUFY Programme coordinator. Professor Hew Gill said, “UCB MUFY results in Dhaka are now better than Monash results in Australia.  MUFY offers a guaranteed pathway to a world top 40 university for every student who passes, and all our students pass. UCB celebrates Monash College Graduation Convocation 2024

Universal College Bangladesh (UCB), the exclusive partner to Monash College in Bangladesh, celebrated the Monash College Graduation Convocation 2024, on the evening of June 29, 2024. 103 students pursuing different programs offered by Monash College, namely, Monash University Foundation Year and Monash College Diploma (Business, Information Technology and Engineering), graduated on this day through a stunning event held at the Sheraton Dhaka. This is the 3rd batch graduating from Monash University Foundation Year and Monash College Diploma through Universal College Bangladesh (UCB). At the graduation event, Manas Singh, CEO, of STS Group, and Zarif Munir, Director, UCB, as well as students, parents, teachers, and other esteemed guests were present. H. E. Nardia Simpson, Acting High Commissioner of Australia to Bangladesh joined the event as the Chief Guest. The event began with a welcome note from Prof. Hew Gill, President and Provost at UCB, followed by a board commendation speech by Zarif Munir, Director and Member of the Board of UCB. The event moved forward with an occasional address by Matthew Carter, Executive Director of Education, Monash College Australia, followed by a commencement address by the Chief Guest, H. E. Nardia Simpson, Acting High Commissioner of Australia to Bangladesh. The graduating students were presented by Prof. Md Ismail Hossain, Dean of Academic Affairs at UCB who completed his doctorate at Monash University Australia. All the students were awarded Monash University Foundation Year and Monash College Diploma certificates at the Convocation. Seven students received awards for outstanding academic performance, including one student who achieved world topping scores in two IT exams. 20 Students were also recognized for their community contributions, including serving as members of the UCB Student Council, and involvement in charity projects for the needy. Zarif Munir, Director, UCB, said, “Witnessing the graduation of these talented students fills me with immense pride. মোনাশ কলেজ গ্র্যাজুয়েশন কনভোকেশন ২০২৪’এর আয়োজন করেছে বাংলাদেশে মোনাশ কলেজের একমাত্র অংশীদার ইউনিভার্সাল কলেজ বাংলাদেশ (ইউসিবি)। ২৯ জুন শনিবার সন্ধ্যায় শেরাটন ঢাকা’য় আয়োজিত এই জমকালো সমাবর্তন অনুষ্ঠানে মোনাশ ইউনিভার্সিটি ফাউন্ডেশন ইয়ার এবং মোনাশ কলেজ ডিপ্লোমা (বিজনেস, ইনফরমেশন টেকনোলজি অ্যান্ড ইঞ্জিনিয়ারিং)-সহ মোনাশ কলেজের ভিন্ন ভিন্ন প্রোগ্রাম সম্পন্নকারী ১০৩ জন শিক্ষার্থীর হাতে স্নাতকের সনদ তুলে দেয় ইউসিবি। ইউসিবি’র মাধ্যমে এযাবৎ তিনটি ব্যাচ মোনাশ ইউনিভার্সিটি ফাউন্ডেশন ইয়ার এবং মোনাশ কলেজ ডিপ্লোমা সম্পন্ন করেছে। কনভোকেশন আয়োজনে এসটিএস গ্রুপের সিইও মানাস সিং এবং ইউসিবি’র ডিরেক্টর জারিফ মুনিরসহ প্রতিষ্ঠানের শিক্ষক, শিক্ষার্থী, অভিভাবক ও কর্মচারীরা উপস্থিত ছিলেন। প্রধান অতিথি হিসেবে আয়োজনে যুক্ত হন বাংলাদেশে অস্ট্রেলিয়ার ভারপ্রাপ্ত হাই কমিশনার নার্দিয়া সিম্পসন। অনুষ্ঠানের শুরুতে শুভেচ্ছা বক্তব্য দেন ইউসিবি’র প্রেসিডেন্ট ও প্রভোস্ট প্রফেসর হিউ গিল। পাশাপাশি বক্তব্য দেন প্রতিষ্ঠানের ডিরেক্টর ও বোর্ড সদস্য জারিফ মুনির। স্নাতকদের উদ্দেশ্য ও করণীয় প্রসঙ্গে আলোকপাত করেন প্রতিষ্ঠানের এক্সিকিউটিভ ডিরেক্টর অব এডুকেশন ম্যাথিউ কার্টার। শিক্ষার্থীদের অনুপ্রেরণা ও দিকনির্দেশনা দিয়ে সর্বশেষে বক্তব্য রাখেন বাংলাদেশে অস্ট্রেলিয়ার ভারপ্রাপ্ত হাই কমিশনার নার্দিয়া সিম্পসন। মোনাশ ইউনিভার্সিটি অস্ট্রেলিয়ার ডক্টরেট ডিগ্রীধারী এবং ইউসিবি’র একাডেমিক অ্যাফেয়ার্সের ডিন অধ্যাপক মোঃ ইসমাইল হোসেন স্নাতক সম্পন্নকারী শিক্ষার্থীদের পরিচয় করিয়ে দেন। এ পর্যায়ে মোনাশ ফাউন্ডেশন ইয়ার এবং মোনাশ কলেজ ডিপ্লোমা সম্পন্নকারী সকল শিক্ষার্থীকে সনদ প্রদান করা হয়। অনন্য মেধার স্বাক্ষর রেখে বিশেষ পুরস্কার জিতে নেন মোট সাতজন শিক্ষার্থী, যাদের মধ্যে একজন শিক্ষার্থী দুটি আইটি পরীক্ষায় বিশ্বে সর্বোচ্চ স্কোর অর্জন করেছে। এছাড়া, ইউসিবি’তে অধ্যয়নকালে স্টুডেন্ট কাউন্সিলের সদস্য হিসেবে দায়িত্বপালন এবং বিভিন্ন মানবিক (দাতব্য) কাজে জড়িত থাকার স্বীকৃতিস্বরূপ ২০ জন শিক্ষার্থীকে পুরস্কৃত করা হয়। “আমাদের মেধাবী শিক্ষার্থীদের সাফল্যের সাথে স্নাতক সম্পন্ন করতে দেখে আমি গর্বিত”, বলেন ইউসিবি’র ডিরেক্টর জারিফ মুনির। “মোনাশ কলেজের সাথে অংশীদারিত্বের মাধ্যমে ইউসিবি দেশের তরুণ শিক্ষার্থীদের জন্য আন্তর্জাতিক মানসম্পন্ন শিক্ষার সুযোগ তৈরি করে তাদের সম্ভাবনার পূর্ণ বিকাশের পথ তৈরি করছে, যাতে তারা নিজেদের ও দেশের ভবিষ্যত আরো উজ্জ্বল করে তুলতে পারে।” ইউসিবি’র প্রেসিডেন্ট ও প্রভোস্ট প্রফেসর হিউ গিল বলেন, “আমাদের মোনাশ প্রোগ্রামে উত্তীর্ণ (পাস) হওয়া প্রত্যেক শিক্ষার্থী বিশ্বের শীর্ষ ৪০টি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে উচ্চতর শিক্ষার নিশ্চিত সুযোগ পায়। আমাদের সকল শিক্ষার্থী সফলভাবে উত্তীর্ণ হয়। এই যাত্রায় তাদের সহযোগিতা করতে পেরে আমি আনন্দিত।” বাংলাদেশে অস্ট্রেলিয়ার ভারপ্রাপ্ত হাই কমিশনার নার্দিয়া সিম্পসন বলেন, “বাংলাদেশ এবং অস্ট্রেলিয়া এই দুই দেশই শিক্ষার সুযোগ তৈরির ব্যাপারে প্রতিশ্রুতিশীল। ফলে দুই দেশের মধ্যে গড়ে উঠেছে দৃঢ় সম্পর্ক ও শক্তিশালী বন্ধন। এদেশে আন্তর্জাতিক মানের শিক্ষা গ্রহণের সুযোগ তৈরি করার প্রত্যয় নিয়ে কাজ করার জন্য আমরা বাংলাদেশ সরকারের দূরদৃষ্টিসম্পন্ন সিদ্ধান্তকে স্বাগত জানাই। বিশেষ করে, ইউনিভার্সাল কলেজ বাংলাদেশের মতো অগ্রগামী প্রতিষ্ঠান উচ্চশিক্ষা গ্রহণের এই প্রক্রিয়াকে ত্বরান্বিত করতে নিরলস কাজ করে যাচ্ছে। স্নাতক সম্পন্নকারী শিক্ষার্থীদের অভিনন্দন। আমি মনে করি, এই শিক্ষার্থীরা বাংলাদেশের জন্য একটি উজ্জ্বল ভবিষ্যত নিশ্চিত করতে ভূমিকা রাখবে এবং বাংলাদেশ ও অস্ট্রেলিয়ার মধ্যে বিদ্যমান সম্পর্ককে নতুন উচ্চতায় নিয়ে যাবে।”   Published in: Sharebazarnews

মোনাশ কলেজ গ্র্যাজুয়েশন কনভোকেশন ২০২৪’এর আয়োজন করেছে বাংলাদেশে মোনাশ কলেজের অংশীদার ইউনিভার্সাল কলেজ বাংলাদেশ (ইউসিবি)। ২৯ জুন শনিবার সন্ধ্যায় শেরাটন ঢাকা’য় আয়োজিত এই সমাবর্তন অনুষ্ঠানে মোনাশ ইউনিভার্সিটি ফাউন্ডেশন ইয়ার এবং মোনাশ কলেজ ডিপ্লোমা (বিজনেস, ইনফরমেশন টেকনোলজি অ্যান্ড ইঞ্জিনিয়ারিং)-সহ মোনাশ কলেজের ভিন্ন ভিন্ন প্রোগ্রাম সম্পন্নকারী ১০৩ জন শিক্ষার্থীর হাতে স্নাতকের সনদ তুলে দেয় ইউসিবি। ইউসিবি’র মাধ্যমে এখন পর্যন্ত তিনটি ব্যাচ মোনাশ ইউনিভার্সিটি ফাউন্ডেশন ইয়ার এবং মোনাশ কলেজ ডিপ্লোমা সম্পন্ন করেছে। সমাবর্তন আয়োজনে এসটিএস গ্রুপের সিইও মানাস সিং এবং ইউসিবি’র ডিরেক্টর জারিফ মুনিরসহ প্রতিষ্ঠানের শিক্ষক, শিক্ষার্থী, অভিভাবক ও কর্মচারীরা উপস্থিত ছিলেন। প্রধান অতিথি হিসেবে আয়োজনে যুক্ত হন বাংলাদেশে অস্ট্রেলিয়ার ভারপ্রাপ্ত হাই কমিশনার নার্দিয়া সিম্পসন। অনুষ্ঠানের শুরুতে শুভেচ্ছা বক্তব্য দেন ইউসিবি’র প্রেসিডেন্ট ও প্রভোস্ট প্রফেসর হিউ গিল। পাশাপাশি বক্তব্য দেন প্রতিষ্ঠানের ডিরেক্টর ও বোর্ড সদস্য জারিফ মুনির। স্নাতকদের উদ্দেশ্য ও করণীয় প্রসঙ্গে আলোকপাত করেন প্রতিষ্ঠানের এক্সিকিউটিভ ডিরেক্টর অব এডুকেশন ম্যাথিউ কার্টার। শিক্ষার্থীদের অনুপ্রেরণা ও দিকনির্দেশনা দিয়ে সর্বশেষে বক্তব্য রাখেন বাংলাদেশে অস্ট্রেলিয়ার ভারপ্রাপ্ত হাই কমিশনার নার্দিয়া সিম্পসন। মোনাশ ইউনিভার্সিটি অস্ট্রেলিয়ার ডক্টরেট ডিগ্রীধারী এবং ইউসিবি’র একাডেমিক অ্যাফেয়ার্সের ডিন অধ্যাপক মো ইসমাইল হোসেন স্নাতক সম্পন্নকারী শিক্ষার্থীদের পরিচয় করিয়ে দেন। মোনাশ ফাউন্ডেশন ইয়ার এবং মোনাশ কলেজ ডিপ্লোমা সম্পন্নকারী সকল শিক্ষার্থীকে সনদ প্রদান করা হয়। অনন্য মেধার স্বাক্ষর রেখে বিশেষ পুরস্কার জিতে নেন মোট সাতজন শিক্ষার্থী।  যাদের মধ্যে একজন শিক্ষার্থী দুটি আইটি পরীক্ষায় বিশ্বে সর্বোচ্চ স্কোর অর্জন করেছে। এছাড়া ইউসিবি’তে অধ্যয়নকালে স্টুডেন্ট কাউন্সিলের সদস্য হিসেবে দায়িত্বপালন এবং বিভিন্ন মানবিক (দাতব্য) কাজে জড়িত থাকার স্বীকৃতিস্বরূপ ২০ জন শিক্ষার্থীকে পুরস্কৃত করা হয়। ইউসিবি’র ডিরেক্টর জারিফ মুনির বলেন, আমাদের মেধাবী শিক্ষার্থীদের সাফল্যের সাথে স্নাতক সম্পন্ন করতে দেখে আমি গর্বিত। ইউসিবি’র প্রেসিডেন্ট ও প্রভোস্ট প্রফেসর হিউ গিল বলেন, আমাদের মোনাশ প্রোগ্রামে উত্তীর্ণ হওয়া প্রত্যেক শিক্ষার্থী বিশ্বের শীর্ষ ৪০টি বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে উচ্চতর শিক্ষার নিশ্চিত সুযোগ পায়। আমাদের সকল শিক্ষার্থী সফলভাবে উত্তীর্ণ হয়। এই যাত্রায় তাদের সহযোগিতা করতে পেরে আমি আনন্দিত। বাংলাদেশে অস্ট্রেলিয়ার ভারপ্রাপ্ত হাই কমিশনার নার্দিয়া সিম্পসন বলেন, বাংলাদেশ এবং অস্ট্রেলিয়া এই দুই দেশই শিক্ষার সুযোগ তৈরির ব্যাপারে প্রতিশ্রুতিশীল। ফলে দুই দেশের মধ্যে গড়ে উঠেছে দৃঢ় সম্পর্ক ও শক্তিশালী বন্ধন। এদেশে আন্তর্জাতিক মানের শিক্ষা গ্রহণের সুযোগ তৈরি করার প্রত্যয় নিয়ে কাজ করার জন্য আমরা বাংলাদেশ সরকারের দূরদৃষ্টিসম্পন্ন সিদ্ধান্তকে স্বাগত জানাই। বিশেষ করে, ইউনিভার্সাল কলেজ বাংলাদেশের মতো অগ্রগামী প্রতিষ্ঠান উচ্চশিক্ষা গ্রহণের এই প্রক্রিয়াকে ত্বরান্বিত করতে নিরলস কাজ করে যাচ্ছে। স্নাতক সম্পন্নকারী শিক্ষার্থীদের অভিনন্দন। আমি মনে করি, এই শিক্ষার্থীরা বাংলাদেশের জন্য একটি উজ্জ্বল ভবিষ্যত নিশ্চিত করতে ভূমিকা রাখবে এবং বাংলাদেশ ও অস্ট্রেলিয়ার মধ্যে বিদ্যমান সম্পর্ককে নতুন উচ্চতায় নিয়ে যাবে।   Published in: Protidinerbangladesh

Nardia Simpson highlights Bangladesh-Australia strong ties

Acting High Commissioner of Australia to Bangladesh Nardia Simpson has said the strong ties and connections between the two nations are deeply rooted in a shared commitment to education. She said they greatly appreciate the Bangladesh government’s forward-thinking decision to welcome international education. “And it is wonderful to witness the process accelerate through a commendable organization like Universal College Bangladesh. Congratulations to the graduates, I am confident that they will ensure a brighter future for Bangladesh and strengthen the partnership between Bangladesh and Australia,” the Australian envoy said while celebrating Monash College Graduation Convocation 2024 in Dhaka. Universal College Bangladesh (UCB), the exclusive partner to Monash College in Bangladesh, celebrated the Monash College Graduation Convocation 2024, on Saturday (29 June) evening, according to a press release. A total 103 students pursuing different programmes offered by Monash College, namely, Monash University Foundation Year and Monash College Diploma (Business, Information Technology and Engineering), graduated on this day. This is the 3rd batch graduating from Monash University Foundation Year and Monash College Diploma through Universal College Bangladesh (UCB). At the graduation event, Manas Singh, CEO, of STS Group, and Zarif Munir, Director, UCB, as well as students, parents, teachers, and other esteemed guests were present. The event began with a welcome note from Prof. Hew Gill, President and Provost at UCB, followed by a board commendation speech by Zarif Munir, Director and Member of the Board of UCB. The event moved forward with an occasional address by Matthew Carter, Executive Director of Education, Monash College Australia. The graduating students were presented by Prof. Md Ismail Hossain, Dean of Academic Affairs at UCB who completed his doctorate at Monash University Australia. All the students were awarded Monash University Foundation Year and Monash College Diploma certificates at the Convocation. Seven students received awards for outstanding academic performance, including one student who achieved world topping scores in two IT exams. A total of 20 Students were also recognized for their community contributions, including serving as members of the UCB Student Council, and involvement in charity projects for the needy. Zarif Munir, Director, UCB, said, “Witnessing the graduation of these talented students fills me with immense pride. Through our partnership with Monash College at Universal College Bangladesh, we are providing the youth of Bangladesh with a world-class educational pathway to unlock their full potential and shape a brighter future for themselves and the nation”. “Our Monash programs offer a guaranteed pathway to a world top 40 university for every student who passes, and all our students pass. I am honored to have played a role in our students’ academic journey”, said Professor Hew Gill, President and Provost, UCB. Aura Rahman is a lecturer at Universal College Bangladesh. She is also acting as a coordinator for the Monash University Foundation Year program. Aura attained her bachelor’s (BSc in Biomedical Sciences) from University College London, United Kingdom. She then completed her master’s (Msc in Biotechnology) from North South University. Her research interest lies in the field of genomic epidemiology of infectious diseases. Her contribution in several local and international research projects have led to publications in several highly ranked peer-reviewed journals including BMC Genomics, Nature Scientific Reports, Science and FEMS Microbiology Letters.

Nahida Parvin

Nahida Parvin is a lecturer at Universal College Bangladesh. Before joining UCB, she worked as a lecturer of accounting and marketing at Ahsanullah University of Science & Technology (AUST). Nahida has received her MBA & BBA degrees, majoring in Accounting & Information Systems, from the University of Dhaka. She has been the recipient of “Dean’s Honor Award 2018”, awarded by the University of Dhaka. Currently, Nahida is on study leave. She is pursuing her second master’s degree in “Quantitative Finance & Data Science” at Oklahoma State University, USA. Her research interest lies in the field of ESG accounting, ESG finance, circular economy, and data analytics in the field of accounting and finance. Habiba Kibria

Ms Habiba Kibria is a working as a Senior Lecturer at Universal College Bangladesh. She completed her Masters in Marketing from Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia and holds a double degree in Bachelor of Marketing and Human Resource Management from North South University, Dhaka, Bangladesh. She has been in academia throughout her career- from being a Lecturer to a Student Councilor to a Country Manager for a foreign university. Dr. Sadia Afreen

Prof. Muhammad Ismail Hossain

Muhammad Ismail Hossain is a Professor and Dean of Academic Affairs, Monash & LSE Program at Universal College Bangladesh. He is on leave from his earlier appointment as Professor of Marketing at the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. Prof. Hossain received his Ph.D. in consumer behavior from Monash University, Australia. He is an MBA from the University of Dhaka and also has a Master’s degree in International Business from the University of Melbourne, Australia. His research interests lie in the fields of tourism, consumer behavior, and supply chain management. He is one of the co-authors of the book Social Media Storms: Empowering Leadership beyond Crisis Management published by Routledge. He has more than 50 publications including books, research monographs, journal articles, newspaper articles, and keynote papers. His work has been published in many international high-impact journals such as the Journal of Supply Chain Management, Journal of Travel Research, Tourism Recreation Research, Current Issues in Tourism, International Journal of Tourism Research, and Journal of City, Culture, and Society among others. He is an editorial board member of the Journal of Travel Research, the leading tourism journal in the world. He has received a notable amount of external research funding locally as well as internationally as part of various international and local research groups. The value of such local and international funding is BDT 1.06 crores and USD 827,873 respectively. As a consultant, he worked for government projects, not-for-profits, and for-profit local and international organizations.
